WELCOME TO FLEET WEEK NYC

The New York Council Navy League is a proud founder of Fleet Week New York, a tradition that has brought the Sea Services and the people of New York together for nearly four decades.

The first official Fleet Week New York was held in 1988, beginning an annual celebration that welcomes U.S. Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard personnel to the city. Each year, New Yorkers have the opportunity to meet the men and women who serve, tour visiting ships and experience the capabilities and traditions of America’s Sea Services.

OUR ROLE IN FLEET WEEK

Fleet Week is one of the New York Council’s most important traditions and one of our busiest weeks of the year.

Throughout the week, the Council welcomes visiting service members, supports official events and creates opportunities for military leaders to connect with New York’s civic, business and maritime communities.

It is our opportunity to put our mission into action: Support. Educate. Advocate.

THE SCHEUING CO/XO RECEPTION

One of the Council’s signature Fleet Week traditions is our annual reception honoring the Commanding Officers and Executive Officers of participating ships and units.

Since 2017, the reception has honored longtime Navy League member Richard W. Scheuing, whose leadership and advocacy helped bring Fleet Week to New York. In 2021, the event was renamed to honor both Richard and his wife, Doris, recognizing their lifelong commitment to the Sea Services.

The Scheuing CO/XO Reception is made possible in part through the generous support of HII, a valued sponsor of this signature Fleet Week event. Their partnership helps the New York Council bring together Sea Service leadership, Navy League members and supporters to welcome those who serve to New York City.

A NEW YORK TRADITION

Fleet Week gives New Yorkers a rare opportunity to connect personally with the Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen who serve our nation.

For the New York Council Navy League, it is also a chance to do what we have done since Fleet Week began: welcome them to New York, support their service and ensure they know this city stands behind them.
